About Me

My name is Cherie and I am a mother of 4 kids. Reading books is a part of our daily routine, and so after more than 11 years of mothering I have read,  by my own estimation, a gazillion children’s books. Well, maybe it’s only a bazillion if you don’t count the ones that have been read on repeat day after day.

In a former life, I was an ESL teacher for international university students. Now I am a full-time mum which is rewarding and stressful and fun and demanding and satisfying.

In my spare time, I vacuum, fold laundry, use gumption, wade through school notices, do the minimal amount of gardening it takes to maintain a small vegetable patch, dream about finishing a sewing project, and now blog!

Update: Since starting this blog 4 years ago my life has changed. We’ve weathered Covid and 2 years of disrupted schooling. But during that time I managed to do an online writing course, an internship with a small Melbourne-based publisher and commence a Master of Information Studies with a specialisation as a children’s librarian. I have also written dozens of book reviews for the CBCA’s Reading Time website and Kirkus.

This year my youngest is starting primary school which feels like a huge milestone. We are starting to read fewer picture books and are increasing the chapter books. We still read aloud regularly, make use of audiobooks, visit the local library and seek out bookish outings.
